DJ & Live Band FAQs

Submit a Question
A.  You need to discuss this with the Band Manager or DJ...if a Live Band to make sure they have the music sheets and can rehearse the songs...if a DJ he/she needs to make sure they have the CD with the song.  If specific songs are really important to you...put them in the Service Contract.

Q.  What is better...a live band or DJ?-- Isle of Palms, SC
A.  It depends on your and your groom's style.  Many people like live bands because the sound quality and adaptability.  They can speed up songs, and can change instruments and have vocal solos depending on the mood of your guests.  BUT Live Bands are expensive.  However, with a DJ, with a young crowd, he/she can play popular dance music they way it sounds on the radio. Mix it up and get a lot of people dancing.   It really depends on you and your groom and the atmosphere that you want at your reception.

Q.  Can I tell the band how I want them to dress?--Chester, SC
A.  First, you should be able to tell the musician's stage presence from seeing them perform.  Make sure you see them...ask them if you could come see them somewhere--they should not mind)  They normally dress and act the part of the kind of style band they are.  Discuss you needs with the band manager.  I am sure they are willing to help make your day special.

Q.  Who provides the sound system for the reception?--Bennettsville, SC
A.  Depends.  You need to first ask your Band Manager/DJ if they have their own.  If yes, then make sure it is compatible with the reception facility.  If they do not have their own sound system, then see if the facility does.  There maybe an extra charge for this.  If you are having a reception outdoors or at an unusual site, you will need to rent it yourself.

Q.  I am wanting a Live Band for our Reception.  I live in Greenville but our wedding is in Charleston.  How can I audition them and choose a good band?--Greenville, SC
A.   Well, you DO need to audition bands...if you can't do it in person then you can ask them to send you a video tape so you can hear and see the band.  That is about the best option I can think of.

Q.  How much does a DJ cost? --Rock Hill, SC
A.  Most professional DJs cost around $500 to $1500 for a 4 to 5 hour reception.

Q.  Do I need to have a meal made for my DJ? --Walterboro, SC
A.  Yes.  A hungry DJ is a grumpy DJ!
