Q.  What should I write in my Thank You notes for my shower gifts and how long do I have to send them out????
Charleston, SC
A.  You need to always mention the specific gift.  Write something about how you will enjoy it or that you have already used the gift.  You should try to start sending them out as soon as possible.  Try doing 5 a night.  That way you will not get frustrated and tired of doing them.

Q.  We are planning an outdoor wedding, but I am really worried about the weather especially during South Carolina's summer.  When do you think is the best time to have an outdoor wedding?
Florence, SC
A.  It depends on the setting and season.  If you are getting married on the beach during the summer, an early morning or late evening ceremony would be nice.  South Carolina's summers are HOT and HUMID!!!  You definitely do not want your guests sweating and becoming uncomfortable as well as yourself and groom.  South Carolina's Fall and Spring seasons have fairly mild weather and a ceremony would be comfortable at any hour.  Winter....is out.  REMEMBER:  You should always have a backup plan in case of rain!!!!!!

Q.  Would it be rude to ban smoking during our reception?
Columbia, SC
A.  This is a very touchy subject.  Many smokers feel they should have the right to smoke especially since it is a social event.  I think the best thing to do so everyone is happy and not offended is to set up a designated smoking area to accommodate your smoking guests.  Make sure it is not too close to a lot of activity that the smoke would bother non-smokers.

Q.  We are having a very small and informal wedding and reception.  Do we need to send formal invitations?
Greenwood, SC
A.  Depending on what your definition of small is....Normally, if you invite 50 people or more, the invitations should be formal.  If you are talking about 20 to 30 people a handwritten note or even a phone call would do.
